Welcome to the Boswell Book Company home page. We’re in our 12th month of business, and looking forward to our first birthday. Our location was previously a branch of the Harry W. Schwartz Bookshops, an esteemed institution in Milwaukee from its birth in 1927 to the closing of its retail shops in 2009. It’s spirit lives on in 800-CEO-Read. Though most known for its fifty years downtown, Schwartz’s first location was just a block away from us on Downer Avenue, doing business under the name Casanova’s. Our name comes from the picture of James Boswell, which Schwartz used as its logo since 1973. At our store you’ll find new and second-hand books, bargain titles, magazines, and newspapers. We carry many of the gift items you’d expect a bookstore to carry, such as boxed and loose cards, journals, and bookmarks, as well as a nice selection of kids plush, puppets, games and toys. We offer book club services, and offer four in-store clubs that require no membership. Our event calendar has a combination of nationally touring and home-grown authors. We also offer sales at various other venues around towns, from writing workshops to business conferences to concerts. Check out our blogs and our archived collection of email newsletters for more information. You can sign up for either right now. Stop by when you’re visiting the East Side or even downtown. We’re just a short ride northeast, just up the hill from Lake Michigan. No car? We’re on the route 30 and walking distance from the 15 and 21. On street parking is available, both metered and nonmetered. If you like your car covered, there’s also a structure across the street.
